SIngle Head / Dual Head

Hi,

I originally had in mind buying one 1080p projector, but now I am considering two 720p projectors.

What would be the highest possible curving angle possibilities in each version and what would you rather recommend.

In case of two projectors...ATI or Nvidia solution. Thx.

I can span 180 degrees using two 16:10 projectors. 90-100 degrees FOV would be the most extreme I'd do on a projector though. You get the depth of the curve any deeper you'll have to fight focus variation issues. As is, I'm a bit reluctant to do anything over 75 degrees per projector because the pixel warping gets pretty agressive at 90-100.

The only way to do dual projector and NVIDIA would be to revert back to the old way of multi-display gaming and use a Matrox DH2G or TH2G box attached to the two projectors. AMD(ATI) is the prefferred method for dual projector because of the price/performance ratio and significantly more display options (2x1, 3x1, 4x1, 5x1 and 3x2). NVIDIA Vista/Win7 drivers don't do dual-display spanning.

And to my original question, what you would rather buy.....that is the dual head I guess from what I can tell now.

And one more question, I know nvidia has wide support for its 3d technologies and AMD has something simillar most probably too. Would 3D be possible in case of dual head or even single head?

Thanks very much!

You have to be very picky about the projectors you use with S3D. While most 720p projectors are S3D capable anymore, NVIDIA has a very selective 3D Vision and 3D TV Play compatability list. I'm not certain on the AMD side if they have a comprohensive list on their S3D options but one of the new things in AMD Eyefinity 2.0 is HD3D compatability. I only have practical experience with the NVIDIA 3D Vision kit and triple projector. AMD Eyefinity 2.0 is so new it's still being rolled out in the Catalyst drivers, so someone is going to have to experiment with Eyefinity 2x1L and AMD HD3D. Either way, NTHUSIM Plus is compatible with both NVIDIA 3D Vision Surround and AMD Eyefinity solutions.

As far as preference of projector(s) it really depends upon where you're setting up and what your overall use will be. Untill I know that 100% I can't give an informed answer. Will your primary use be home theater or gaming?

I guess mostly sim gaming... like iRacing, Live for speed, Netkar Pro et.

But to have option of watching movies would be also useful for me.

To answer where I am not sure how to answer, but I had in mind place in corner of the room, which is space like square of +- 4m on side. Projectors could be placed a lot further if needed.

If it's going to be focused on gaming I'd pick 2x 720p in either 120 or 180 degree FOV configuration.
